Warp #1 is a site-specific artwork that was created for the Vitra Centre by architect Frank Gehry. The work explores variations in material, volume, texture and colour in braided ropes, resulting in a haptic piece that stands in rich contrast with the architecture.
The warp is the constructive element of a woven piece, the warp is always the efficient and silent part, the weft is flexible and brings in the colours and textures. By spinning warp ropes that are expressive and sculptural turns the hierarchy upside down and brings a start in thinking about a new potential of weaving.
